Easy Christmas Table Setting

On Christmas Day, I want to focus on spending the day with all the people I love, not be slaving away in the kitchen and worrying about a fancy table setting. Today I’m going to show you my easy Christmas table setting that you can make with items you probably already have at home. I want to make your Christmas day as stress free and enjoyable as possible!

Because I want to keep things very quick and easy, and use only items I already had, the overall table setting is minimal, elegant and clean. Your guests will be able to focus on the food while admiring your wonderful table dressing skills.

For the base of the table I used a white table cloth with a grey table runner. The difference in colour already adds some layer and texture to the table, giving a nice dimensional look. The layers also help the design feel very pulled together, especially if you choose colours which are either complementary or analogous.

Using white as a base gives you freedom to incorporate any colour scheme you’d like, because everything goes with white! I also feel that a pale colour works best as a base because it allows the food to stand out and be the focus, and after you’ve spent all that time preparing a lovely Christmas dinner, you definitely want that to be getting the attention!

For plates, I kept it simple with my plain white plates, layering a dinner plate and a side plate, with the cutlery and a wine glass to the side. I don’t want to overwhelm people with crockery, or clutter the table, so the two plates can easily be separated, or you can serve a starter and then remove the smaller plate before serving the main dish.

For a centrepiece, I didn’t want to be doing any DIY, so I made a centrepiece out of a plain white cake stand I already had in the cupboard, placed a large candle in the middle (substitute any kind of candle you like!) and stole some baubles off the back of the tree to jazz it up a bit. Trust me, no one will miss a few baubles from round the back, who even decorates the back of their tree?

The fact the cake stand is white keeps that pale theme going and pulls everything together beautifully, allowing the baubles to lend some sparkle and interest. When the centrepiece candle is flickering, the baubles will pick up the light and sparkle in a wonderful dynamic way.

Finish the table off with a few sporadically placed tea lights for an elegant, fairytale style finish! It was just what I was after. Simple and classic, but very elegant. Because there was no DIY involved, just assembling of things I already had, the whole table took about 10 minutes to put together.
