Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  1. Easy to Prepare. These truffles are a breeze to prepare.
  2. Minimal Ingredients. Using only four ingredients you end up with a creamy, decadent truffle filling covered in toasted hazelnuts.

How to Make Nutella Truffles

These easy truffles are great for making over the holiday and giving as gifts. Let’s get started.

hazelnuts

Key Ingredients

  • Hazelnuts. Use salted or plain hazelnuts.
  • Dark Chocolate. Helps keep these truffles from being too sweet.
  • Nutella. Gives these truffles their signature flavor. Use your favorite brand.
  • Heavy Cream. Is used to make the creamiest truffles.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Hazelnuts. Roughly chop the hazelnuts and lightly toast them in a dry skillet.

2. Make the Truffle Filling. Place water in a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Add the truffle-filling ingredients to a heatproof bowl and place over the saucepan. Stir constantly until everything has just melted.

3. Refrigerate the Truffle Mixture. Immediately place the truffle mixture in the fridge to cool completely.

4. Create the Truffles. Take the cold truffle mixture and scoop out little balls. Roll them in your hands so they are round and then toss in chopped toasted hazelnuts.

Recipe Tips, Variations, and Substitutions

  • Prefer peanuts? Use chopped salted peanuts instead of hazelnuts for that peanut flavor.
  • Milk chocolate can be used instead of dark chocolate. If you prefer the flavor of milk chocolate you can use it in place of dark chocolate.

Storage Recommendations

Store these truffles in an airtight container in your fridge for 2 weeks. Truffles can also be frozen for up to 3 months.

  1. I just commented about nutella banana bread, and now I see these.. we think alike :) Anyway, not to over-comment (haha) but just had to ask if you are taking German classes? My cousin who lives in Basel just recently informed me that all immigrants are able to take a state-paid-for language class here? I was blown away! I’ve been thinking with our recent travels like I would like to properly finish learning French and Spanish (and Swiss-German would be a plus!) but I never thought I’d be able to officially do that for free!

    • Haha no worries about commenting – I love chatting with people in the comments :D I am taking German classes but they were via my work, I didn’t know that there was an option to take state paid for language classes, I will have to look into that! I wonder if it varies per Canton maybe? I was surprised when we moved how much influence the cantons have on everything. Swiss German seems impossible… but High German I am working on! I’d like to learn French one day too, or maybe Italian!

    • Yes, I’m not sure about the canton rules, although I’m sure that it differs! But she lives in Basel as well so I’m assuming you’d be in the same situation? And I actually much prefer Swiss German, and I’m better at understanding it, but that’s probably because that’s what I’ve grown up hearing. haha. High German sounds so harsh!

  2. These look and sound so delicious, I will surely be making these soon. I like to think I speak Italian but it seems you always understand much faster than you speak it. I know what you mean I know a few people who speak 3 or 4 languages and it always amazes me too. Good for you and your German.
