Last year, many of us went “gaga” over Ball’s limited edition blue canning jars. Well, I have great news: Ball has added spring green jars to their Heritage Collection, and they’ve offered to give a box of a them to one of my readers! This green canning jars giveaway also includes a set of their brand new BPA-free green lids :)

Green Ball Jars (giveaway at Healthy Green Kitchen)

I own SO many glass jars: I have them in every shape and size imaginable. We drink out of them, plus of course they’re great for water-bath canning and for making lacto-fermented foods.

Green Ball Jars (giveaway at Healthy Green Kitchen)

(Pictured here are the jars filled with my Spicy Lacto-fermented Pickles, the recipe for which can be found in my book One Simple Change.)

green jar giveaway 2_

I also use them for storing many of the ingredients that I keep in my cupboards (such as dried beans, grains, nuts and seeds). Like the blue ones, these green jars are so pretty, and make a truly lovely addition to your home. Also like the blue jars, these are a limited edition. So, if you don’t win the giveaway, don’t wait too long to buy yourself some of these jars. They come in both pint and quart size…you can pick the size you prefer should you win the giveaway.

  63. 63

    Renee B — February 12, 2014 @ 8:05 am

This year I ordered lots of tomato seeds from Adaptiveseeds.com and plan to can lots when tomatoes start ripening. How pretty red tomatoes will look in those green jars! I love colored Ball jars. For years I collected them and other old colored glass jars and bottles to display almost as a wall of stained glass. One larger beautiful aqua ball jar is filled with white sand and holds a beautifully stark but elegant branch from a cherry tree. Instant art that can instantly be functional too. I’d be very happy to win these bottles that I’ll use as beverage glasses until tomato canning begins. Come to think of it, they will be nice votive candles on the patio too.

  64. 64

    Tracey — February 12, 2014 @ 8:33 am

And, since I just made the investment for a boatload of heirloom seeds, I’m planning on ‘putting up’ this season, so they’d be great! Thanks for the giveaway. :-)

I would use these for pickles, drinking, storing leftovers, etc! I have ball jars from buying local kombucha in the summer, and I love them for hot and cold liquids, leftover soup, etc.

Actually, maybe if I had such pretty jars I’d finally start the whole “salad in a jar” packing lunch thing….

I use jars of all shapes and sizes for everything; I’ve even begun taking them to the co-op to fill bulk items, instead of using plastic bags, which I have no use for at home. I buy them in thrift stores, garage sales…. my family might say I have a problem, but just the other day, my boy reached in the cabinet where they’re kept and pulled one out to fill with a bag of snack nuts he’d brought home.

These jars would first be used for canning, since they have new lids and I’d likely wait until berry season for jam or chutney.

Honestly, I’m not sure how I’ll use them! I have so may Ball jars in so many sizes and I put all of m dry goods in them. But so far, my blue ones have proven too pretty to use. I display them with my glassware. I imagine the green ones will get the same treatment. Thanks for the contest!
