A rep from a company called beveri recently contacted me about sampling/reviewing their flax products. We agreed that I was not in any way obligated to write the review and I wasn’t going to receive any compensation.

I was eager to try beveri’s products, because flax seeds are quite terrific health-wise. They are a great source of fiber and essential fatty acids and they are linked in numerous studies to a decreased risk for certain cancers; many health experts recommend adding flax oil as well as well as 2 tablespoons of ground flax to your daily diet.

I tried and really liked beveri’s ground flax with dried blueberries in a couple of smoothies, including the cherry one you see below. The flax is very fresh and is very finely ground. It blends so well in a smoothie that you don’t even know it’s there. These flax seeds are packaged to be shelf-stable for at least a year- really great news, because the last thing you want is to use flax seeds that have gone rancid.

Their ground flax with dried blueberries has just a little tiny bit of sugar- it adds a nice bit of sweetness to a smoothie. I also tried it sprinkled on cooked oatmeal, and again, I liked it a lot. Other ways to use ground flax include sprinkling them on cold cereals or salads, and mixing them with water to use as a substitute for eggs.

Since I’m definitely recommending their flax and since the folks at beveri were so generous with the amount of flax seeds they sent me, I’d love to send some of it your way. I have three 1 pound bags of flax to give away. One is plain unflavored ground flax, one has dried mixed berries, and one has dried cranberries (again, with just a touch of sugar).

Cherry Yogurt Smoothie with Flax

makes 1 smoothie

Ingredients:

* 1 banana, preferably organic, peeled and sliced
* 1 cup organic frozen cherries
* 1 cup organic plain yogurt
* 2 tablespoons ground flax seeds (I used beveri ground flax with dried blueberries)
enough water to blend to a smooth consistency

Directions:

Blend all ingredients well (I use a high speed Blendtec blender), adding ice or additional water to produce desired consistency.
